Exploring Early English and European music
with Rory McCleery
'a countertenor and academic as well as conductor ... combining boyish geniality with quite startling erudition' (The Sunday Times)

We are excited to announce that we are hosting a Singing Day on Saturday 21st March 2026, led by award-winning choral music specialist Rory McCleery, an exciting and highly experienced choral music specialist and countertenor, renowned for his compelling interpretations of a wide range of repertoire, particularly Renaissance and Baroque choral music.  He performs internationally with his professional vocal ensemble The Marian Consort and has directed choirs and led workshops and masterclasses in Europe and the US.

This event will be held in the beautiful St Peter & the Holy Apostles Church in Plymouth and will be an exciting exploration of Early English and European music by the likes of Palestrina, Victoria, Josquin Desprez and William Byrd.

summer
concert

Our programme for the summer concert this year features the oratorio Every Purpose Under The Heaven by Howard Goodall. This work was written in celebration of the 1611 King James Bible’s 400-year anniversary and comprises a choice of texts from Genesis through to Revelation.

Goodall is well known for his choral works and his scores for musical theatre and television of which the most recognisable are Mr Bean, The Vicar of Dibley, Red Dwarf and Blackadder.

We will also perform a selection of pieces by other composers.

open rehearsal and social

Have you ever wanted to join a friendly choir? Come and see what it's like to belong to one of Plymouth's favourite choral ensembles.

We gather at 7.00pm for refreshments in the foyer of St Peter's Church. Here you will be able to meet members of the choir and ask any questions you may have.  Everyone will be made warmly welcome.

From 7.30pm we will be introduced to some of the music we plan to perform at our next concert, with a brand new programme of fabulous songs.

We will finish at 9.30pm.

Music will be provided for you to use during the evening. It might be helpful to bring a bottle of water for the rehearsal.
